International Symposium

17 November 2026

On Tuesday 17 November, the Glass Study Centre at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini will host an international symposium dedicated to the exhibition 1948 – 1958 Murano Glass at the Venice Biennale, currently on view at LE STANZE DEL VETRO.

Beginning at 10 am, the symposium will explore the revival and transformation of Murano glass production in the post-was period. Discussions will focus on the strategies adopted by glassworks, technical and methodological experimentation, and the contributions of key figures in the field. The programme will also examine the dialogue between master glassmakers, artists and designers, as well as the role of the Venice Biennale in supporting the revival of Murano glass production and its recognition in Italy and internationally.

Following introductory remarks by Luca Massimo Barbero, President of the Institute of Art History at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, and Antonio Mazzotta, Director of the Institute, the morning session will feature presentations by Massimo Martignoni (NABA, Milan) and Cristina Beltrami, art and glass historian.

The afternoon session will feature lectures by Rosa Barovier Mentasti, art and glass historian, Fiorella Bulegato(Università Iuav di Venezia), Monica Pastore (Polytechnic University of Bari), and Carla Sonego, glass historian.
