The fifth residential scholarship dedicated to the study of 20th century Venetian glass, promoted by the Giorgio Cini Foundation with the contribution of Pentagram Stiftung, has been awarded to the researcher Rachele Scuro.
A history graduate from Ca’ Foscari, with a doctorate in Medieval History and Archaeology, the winner of the 2019 fellowship will carry out research on 'Pauly & C.-CVM: the International Renaissance of High-Quality Venetian Glass in the 19th and 20th Centuries. An Archive Study'.
The aim of Rachele Scuro’s work is to analyse the development of Pauly & C.-CVM, from its foundation in 1866 through the firm’s period of outstanding success and up to the 1930s, and the role it played on the international market as a company dedicated to industrial innovation.
During the six months of her research – from July to December 2019 – the new bursary holder will be a guest on the campus of the ‘Vittore Branca’ Centre on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, an ideal place for interdisciplinary dialogue with the scientific community of the Cini Foundation.
