Ambras Castle in Innsbruck is proud to host a stunning exhibition dedicated to Laura de Santillana and Alessandro Diaz de Santillana, the two renowned Venetian artists who redefined the Murano glass tradition, featuring Laura’s ‘glass books’, translucent books, as well as Alessandro’s experiments with water-like fluid surfaces. A tribute to Venetian glass.
Known for its significant history and art collections, Ambras Castle in Innsbruck hosts the exhibition dedicated to the glass works of Laura de Santillana and Alessandro Diaz de Santillana. The two Venetian artists, heirs to the prestigious Murano tradition, present creations that blend traditional techniques with contemporary designs.
Laura de Santillana is renowned for her ‘glass books’, glass sheets obtained by collapsing blown cylinders, which evoke the image of translucent books. These works, with shades ranging from opaque white to bright yellow, seem to preserve knowledge suspended in time.
Alessandro Diaz de Santillana, on the other hand, draws inspiration from water, creating mirrored and black surfaces that recall deep pools. Using a refined technique, he transforms glass into thin sheets with folds and undulations, giving his works a fluid and ephemeral quality.
The exhibition at Ambras Castle offers visitors the opportunity to admire the evolution of Venetian glass art through the modern interpretations of the de Santillana siblings, highlighting the continued vitality and innovation of this ancient artisanal tradition.
