The MAK in Vienna presents Das Glas der Architekten. Wien 1900–1937, an extraordinary exhibition celebrating the art of glass, showcasing over 300 glass works created by prominent figures from the Vienna Secession such as Adolf Loos and Otto Wagner, who embodied the spirit of modernity and design.
The exhibition, following the successful collaboration with LE STANZE DEL VETRO, showcases over 300 works from historic Viennese manufacturers such as Johann Loetz Witwe, E. Bakalowits Söhne, and Lobmeyr.
Curated by Rainald Franz, Das Glas der Architekten is a testament to Vienna's vibrant cultural scene between 1900 and 1937—a time when the city was a hub of artistic ideas and innovations. The exhibition highlights how glass became a medium through which modernist principles were expressed, featuring smooth lines, geometric patterns, and an aesthetic of essential beauty. This approach not only elevated glass as an art form but also forged a new dialogue between art, design, and architecture.
The exhibition showcases iconic works by renowned designers and architects such as Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, Adolf Loos, and Otto Wagner. These visionaries redefined the role of glass, transforming it into a key material for 20th-century design and culture. The works on display reflect a period of intense artistic ferment, where glass was not just a functional element but also a symbol of avant-garde experimentation and innovation.
