The new chapter in the exhibition series dedicated to the presence of Murano glass at the Biennale examines the decade from 1948 to 1958.
The new exhibition 1948–1958 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale, curated by Marino Barovier, will be open to the public at LE STANZE DEL VETRO from 19 April to 22 November 2026.
This third chapter in the cycle exploring Murano glass at the Venetian event focuses on the decade from 1948 to 1958 — from the resumption of Biennale activities after the end of the Second World War through the entire 1950s. Once again hosted inside the Padiglione Venezia, the glass exhibitions held during this period reflected the renewed vitality of Murano’s production through the works of several “historic” glassworks, newly founded ateliers, and individual artists presenting under their own name.
For Murano, this decade marked an exceptionally fertile season, in tune with the cultural dynamism of the economic boom and with the rise of design culture.
The leading glassworks featured in these editions included: AVEM (Giulio Radi, Anzolo Fuga), Cenedese (Alfredo Barbini, Fulvio Bianconi, Riccardo Licata), Alfredo Barbini, Barovier & Toso, Ferro & Lazzarini (Ezio Rizzetto), IVR Mazzega, Salviati (Luciano Gaspari), Seguso Dalla Venezia (Ezio Rizzetto), Seguso Vetri d’Arte (Flavio Poli), Archimede Seguso, Alberto Toso, Aureliano Toso (Dino Martens), Fratelli Toso, S.A.L.I.R., Vinicio Vianello, and Venini (Fulvio Bianconi, Paolo Venini).
Accompanied by a catalogue edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, the exhibition will feature the objects shown during those Biennale editions and illustrates them through period documents.
