The volume, edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, explores the exhibitions held from 1948 to 1958, which marked the revival of Murano Glass. In the 1950s the sector experienced an exceptionally fertile period, in tune with the post-war reconstruction spirit, the economic boom, and the rise of design culture.
Drawing on extensive bibliographic and archival research in the Archivio Storico delle Arti Contemporanee and other public and private archives, the catalogue documents, with period photographs, drawings, and often unpublished materials, the works presented at the Giardini from the 24th to the 29th Venice Biennale. The production is illustrated through a careful selection of over 160 glass pieces created by the participating furnaces and artists: Venini, with works by the inventive Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini; Barovier & Toso, featuring pieces by the tireless Ercole Barovier; Seguso Vetri d’Arte, with works by Flavio Poli, rich in Nordic inspiration; and Aureliano Toso, with the creations by Dino Martens. Original research from AVEM was represented by Giulio Radi, Giorgio Ferro, and Anzolo Fuga, while Fratelli Toso featured works by Ermanno Toso. This remarkable survey also includes pieces by Gino Cenedese, master glassmakers Alfredo Barbini and Archimede Seguso who established their own firms, and artists such as Vinicio Vianello, a member of the Spatialist group, as well as Ezio Rizzetto and Anzolo Fuga, who employed glass as an expressive medium.
