Glass...across the seas!

Educational program - Autumn 2014

During the exhibition “Tomaso Buzzi at Venini” guided tours and workshops will be organised according to students’ age groups. Bookings are essential and all activities are free of charge.

5-10 year olds (play school and primary school students)

Kids will play and learn using colours. A colourful rainbow will bring together different stories, artworks and personalities. The colours of the city of Venice and characters who can make you feel happy or sad will appear as if by magic inside LE STANZE DEL VETRO.

5-8 year olds

Children are encouraged to experience the effects of light, darkness and colour. They will be guided to ponder over different perceptions of colour, according to various age groups, different colour combinations, as well as how glass is perceived (transparent/opaque)

Program: kids are welcomed to LE STANZE DEL VETRO, a brief introduction to the exhibition is provided, followed by a guided tour, storytelling on the theme of colours, and a workshop “Buzzi-like sketches and whims”.

9-10 year olds

Children are encouraged to experience the effects of light, darkness and colour. They will also be guided to ponder over the perception of colours, different colour combinations and the medium of glass from a technical point of view (the theory of colours/the art of glassmaking).

Program: kids are welcomed to LE STANZE DEL VETRO, a brief introduction on the exhibition is provided and input is suggested based on Turner’s paintings, followed by a workshop “A sea of glazes” (using water colours).

11-19 year olds (secondary schools)

Older students will approach the works on show by examining the cased glass technique and the influences from the past within Tomaso Buzzi’s works. They will explore visual and emotional implications in the 20th century to test the students’ ideas and taste.

11-13 year olds

Goal: to learn about the different glass-making techniques, guessing the designers’ sources of inspiration and the application of colour theory (from primary to tertiary colours)

Methodology: students are welcomed to LE STANZE DEL VETRO, a guided tour is offered with the help of tablets; workshop: “Good idea: this is where my ideary begins!”

14-18 year olds

Goal: to learn about Buzzi’s historical and cultural background (Milan Neoclassicism; Giò Ponti; Ugo Ojetti; Domus; Il Labirinto), highlight the artistic influences that inspired Buzzi’s work and present Buzzi’s glassworks from his professional production as interior designer in the 1930s.

Program: young visitors are welcomed to LE STANZE DEL VETRO, a guided tour is offered with the help of tablets showing period photographs and videos.

Teaching aid

Thanks to Pentagram Stiftung, the schools visiting LE STANZE DEL VETRO are granted complimentary copies of the video documentaries by Gian Luigi Caldeorne on the history of the Venini glassware company and the talented designers who worked there. All secondary schools visiting LE STANZE DEL VETRO receive a copy of “Tomaso Buzzi. Memories of my Guardian Angel”, and the preceding video documentaries “Carlo Scarpa fuori dal paradiso” (2012) and “Napoleone Martinuzzi. Mio Comandante” (2013). The aim is to provide all schools with a complete video documentary archive of the great Venetian glass making masters of 20th century.
