Produced to accompany the exhibition organized by the Muriel Karasik Gallery in 1989, The Venetians: Modern Glass 1919-1990 explores the venerable Venetian approach to glass as it was interpreted in the twentieth century.
The catalogue features 62 color plates of pieces dating from the late 1920s to the late 1980s, including significant works by every major glassmaker of the period; Paolo Venini, Napoleone Martinuzzi, Ercole Barovier, Carlo Scarpa, Fulvio Bianconi, Thomas Steans and Dale Chihuly are all represented. The curator of the exhibition, William Warmus, provides an informative introduction, and American artist Thomas Stearns contributes an account of his experiences as a designer at the Venini factory in the early 1960s.
