Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) is still Finland’s most widely known designer on the international scene. He designed glass for Iittala and Venini, gold and silver objects for the Kultakeskus firm and porcelain for the Rosenthal corporation in addition to work in furniture, postage stamps and plywood sculpture.
The Finnish Glass Museum’s summer exhibition of 2013 presents Wirkkala’s designs of art glass for the Iittala glassworks and art objects for Kultakeskus. In addition to widely known pieces, the exhibition features rare collectibles.
