La scultura alla Biennale di Venezia 1895-1914

Una presenza in ombra

40,00

The result of over a decade of in-depth research on sculpture from the late 19th century to the early decades of the 20th century, this volume is the first study specifically dedicated to the sculptural works exhibited during the first eleven editions of the Venice Biennale — from 1895 to 1914. The 1914 exhibition was overshadowed by the outbreak of the First World War, a tragic event that would irrevocably transform society, taste, and the dynamics of the art market.

Thanks primarily to the support of the libraries and archives of the Venice Biennale (ASAC) and the Civic Museums (MUVE) — which, for years, served as a fertile ground for the author’s research and remarkable discoveries — this book charts, also through a rich visual apparatus, a journey through the complex history of international sculpture, where the careers of individual artists are interwoven with the systems of art criticism, collecting, and public acquisitions.
