This is the first volume in the series dedicated to the acquisitions of the Glass Study Center of the Institute of Art History at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, focusing on the work of Ginny Ruffner, Peter Shire, and Emmanuel Babled. The Ginny Ruffner collection includes various types of materials, whose core is comprised of 52 sketches produced during the artist’s residency in Murano in 1989 and manufactured by the Vistosi glassworks in the same year. The Peter Shire collection contains 37 slides of a selection of glass pieces—some of which correspond to the sketches preserved in the iconographic archive—as well as a photographic reportage showing the artist working alongside the masters of the Vistosi glassworks. Lastly, the Emmanuel Babled collection gathers sixteen sketches created for the Primaire collection, presented at the Galerie Clara Scremini in Paris from 9 September to 9 October 1999. The models selected for the collection were hand-blown by the Venini glassworks in the spring of 1999.
