Fantasie di vetro
Alongside blown glass – transparent, ethereal, softly coloured, refined – Murano witnessed a hugely successful new form of glass early in the 20th century, known as the murino. Amongst the artists who couldn’t resist the murino’s appeal were Vittorio Zecchin, Carlo Scarpa, Fulvio Bianconi, Riccardo Licata and Mario De Luigi, who created brand new forms in which the shapes were carefully paired with colour and function. Glass rods of various colours and shapes, braided in complex configurations with exceptional skill, were bright as glass mosaics. Marina Barovier selected only the most exquisite glass Murano had to offer in the past century.
